Site Welfare for the RIS3 Highways Sector
Why choose Welfare Hire?
The A46 Binley Bypass project in Coventry, spearheaded by National Highways, aimed to alleviate one of the region's most significant traffic bottlenecks, thereby promoting economic growth. The initiative focused on enhancing the Binley junction to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. In alignment with commitments to achieve net-zero emissions by 2035 for the client and 2040 for National Highways the project integrated sustainable solutions into its execution. Welfare Hire's mobile ECO welfare and lighting units played a pivotal role, offering silent, green running that minimised operating costs and transportation needs while maximising productivity. This collaboration resulted in substantial savings: 110,750 liters of fuel, 221,415 kg of CO₂ emissions, and £271,695 in costs.
With the largest and most modern fleet of innovative ECO units in the market, underpinning high specification and standards of quality enables delivery of high-quality work to optimise project productivity
The A629 Improvement Scheme, a £27 million initiative, stands as the end client’s most significant civil engineering investment in decades. Aimed at reducing journey times by up to 30%, the project encompasses the creation of a new link road and junction, road widening, enhanced pedestrian and cyclist facilities, a new bus lane, and landscaping efforts. Given the project's environmental scrutiny, Welfare Hire's ECO welfare units and lighting towers were specified for their demonstrable ESG benefits. This collaboration led to substantial savings: over 21,500 litres of fuel, 56 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, and £37,726 in costs. The modern, efficient equipment not only met environmental targets but also ensured high-quality, uninterrupted project delivery.
Using sustainable products that go further with reductions in fuel and emissions is a winner with our local government client. With Welfare Hire, the data on power use is kept so we can fully demonstrate those savings.
Cut Downtime. Lower Emissions. Stay Road-Ready
Poor Welfare Isn’t Just a Risk - It’s a Roadblock.
Inadequate welfare is more than a compliance issue. On highways projects, it’s a reputational, operational and commercial liability.
HSE enforcement and shutdowns
With increased scrutiny across highways works, compliance gaps can trigger site closures, fines and legal exposure.
Delays and disruption
Outdated or underperforming welfare leads to downtime, especially during night shifts, rolling closures and critical infrastructure works.
Framework and brand damage
Failing to meet modern ESG and welfare standards can jeopardise your status on frameworks and cost you future contracts.
We help eliminate compliance risks before they halt progress.
Because behind every road project, there’s welfare that keeps it moving.
Demand is rising. Availability is tightening.
Framework contractors are locking in welfare in advance for:
- Modern, smart ECO sites with the latest in welfare and lighting
- ESG and wellbeing compliance in National Highways tenders
- Road schemes needing silent, green running with autonomous solutions
