HIGHWAYS - A629 IMPROVEMENT SCHEME
SCOPE
The A629 Phase 1b, Halifax to Huddersfield improvement scheme, is a £27m project which represents the largest civil engineering investment in the Calderdale region for several decades.
The project includes creation of a new link road and junction, widening of existing roads, provision of facilities for pedestrians and cyclists plus a new bus lane and landscaping works.
The project’s aims are to reduce journey times between Huddersfield and Halifax by up to 30%, improve access to several currently poorly served areas and subsequently to improve air quality and reduce rat running on smaller village roads in the area.
CHALLENGE
On behalf of the Local Authority and funded by Government-backed organisations, the project’s environmental impact was always under scrutiny. Specifying lighting and welfare with demonstrable ESG benefits from Welfare Hire gave John Sisk the assurance that they were achieving best practice against those targets and aspirations.
